'Short and Curly'Target: 17 - 18 years
Research indicates a recent increase in the binge-drinking culture amongst young people and a rise in the use of 'party drugs' at an earlier age. There has also been a sharp rise in the rate of sexually transmitted infections amongst young people. All these statistics, along with a number of high-profile males inolved in very pubic anti-social behaviour, aludes to a much bigger social problem.
'Short and Curly' aims to explore appropriate social behaviour, self respect and a strong focus on how our CHOICES can affect us for the rest of our lives. We talk to students about the issue of sex (specifically unsafe sex and 'risky' sexual behaviour ie. 'sexting,') as well as toxic social expectations of women. We also look at drug and alcohol use and street violence, and ultimately, looking at the CONSEQUENCES of the CHOICES we make.
This session aims to tackle some of these real-life 'short & curly' situations head-on, and empower young men in making better decisions for themselves as they face this period of transition into adulthood and a life beyond schooling.
